11-12's win District 4 Title!Updated Friday July 22, 2016 by Laurel Little League.
Hello Laurel Little League!
I'm happy to report that the 11-12 all stars did it!!! They won the District 4 championship in the Little League division for the first time in our League's history! We are all very proud of them, but there's more to come!!! They are heading to Waldorf this weekend to represent our District in the State Tournament. We will play the District 1 Champ, Valley Little League at 10:30am at Stethem Park in Waldorf. It's only about an hour drive, so if you're looking for an activity to fill your Saturday morning, come on out and root us on!!!
Here's how we got there -
Game 1: Laurel beat South Maryland LL on Saturday 9-3 at South Baltimore LL in six innings. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, going into the fifth inning tied 3-3. Laurel finally managed to grab the lead, however when Michael Stroud hit a two-run blast over the left field fence to take the lead for good. He added another solo shot in the sixth for insurance. Heath Franklin had 3 hits and Justin Fahie, Yash Duddukunta, and Elijah Clary each had 2 hits as the bats came alive! On the defensive side, we had great pitching performances by Adrian Jovel, Tanner Perkes and Heath Franklin who combined to hold SMLL to just 3 runs on 2 hits.
Game 2: After trading runs for the first 3 innings and getting shut out in the fourth, Laurel found itself down 2-1 going into the fifth inning. We needed a spark! That spark came in the form of some heads-up baserunning by Anders Kvale and Drew Durrington. With one out and runners on first and second, Travis Thompson hit a line drive to deep right allowing Drew to tag-up and advance to third. After initially heading back to first base, Anders took advantage of the attempted play at third and took off for second base, drawing the throw which allowed Drew to score the tying run. He also eventually scored the go-ahead run later in the inning. Drew and Yash Duddukunta had two hits each for Laurel. Pitching was once again stellar! Justin Gutierrez held them to just two runs on two hits over 2-2/3, Michael Stroud allowed just one hit over 2-1/3, and Heath Franklin picked up the save closing the game for the second day in a row.
Championship (Game 3): Laurel beat South Maryland LL on Tuesday the 12th 11-1 at South Baltimore LL in four innings. South Maryland's lineup had no answer for Laurel's pitchers. Travis Thompson threw three scoreless innings and Ryan Suhr closed the game out in the 4th, combining for a no-hitter. On the offensive side, a great team effort was led by Michael Stroud who hit two home runs in the third inning bringing his total to four for the tournament. Justin Fahie also added a solo-blast and a single as Laurel scored ten runs in the frame to take a commanding lead. Heath Franklin and Elijah Clary had two hits each with Connor Puls, Anders Kvale, and Ryan Suhr also adding hits for a total of 11 hits for the game!
The coaches, parents and fans were so proud of the team and we are all excited to take the show on the road to Waldorf! Address is below. Go Laurel!!!
